Great time to target the sheepshead inshore right now around the docks, piers, bridges, jetties and seawalls. Virtually any hard structure will be holding sheepshead right now feeding well on barnacles, shrimp, clams, oysters, and other such baits cut small and close to their strikezone near the structures. They are going to want minimal tackle, smaller hooks and minimal weight in order to eat more willingly.

Trout action is going well around the area, but they are definitely more around the flats than other areas. While we do see them around the dock lights and bridge lights at night. During the day, they are mostly around the islands and flats. We are seeing them on the slow moving soft plastics, live shrimp and in low-light the surface plugs are a great option too.

Redfish are all about the dock  lines and oyster bars right now. You can find them on the mangrove islands during the days too. They are more on a crustacean bite than anything, but they are starting to group up and they get more aggressive in schools.

Snook are really pushed back into the back protected bay waters around the creeks, rivers, bayous and other back country areas. They can be found on the flats, mangrove shorelines and oyster bars back around the entrances to these areas looking for that dark bay mud, wind protected shorelines, or sun drenched areas or a combination of those variables to try and stay a bit more warm.

Pompano are around some of the local flats moving frequently, edges of the some local passes and sandy cuts, or around the beaches. However, they move often and are typically looking for cleaner clearer waters. They are typically not in the same neighborhoods from day to day making them tough to target with ease.

Hogfish action is going super well for us near shore. We are seeing a good number of them on our ten hour all day trips where we have more time to target them and really dial in to their finicky bite. Plus, on the ten hour we have more advanced anglers with their own spinning rods, light tackle and plentiful live shrimp to target the hogfish which helps us look more successful too. Fishing around 40-70ft of water using the live shrimp and around 1-2oz sinkers with around 3-4ot hooks is a great way to target the hogfish. Plus, we are seeing tons of lane snapper coming up while targeting the hogfish lately. The lanes will go after shrimp, squid, or cut threadfins. However, we see them really loving the shrimp. The mangrove snapper on the other hand, they are a bit more picky really focusing on shrimp and threadfin. They won’t take squid too much typically.

Red grouper are around near shore too, but mostly super deep near shore closer to the offshore range. Especially this time of year with the cooler waters. The red grouper love big chunks of dead bait, or some of the live pinfish. I like a double threadfin near shore that seems to help the red grouper bite more quickly.

The 39 hour trip is out now crushing the big mangrove snapper! They had a stellar night bite crushing huge mangrove snapper, and they got lots of the porgies, vermillion, almaco jacks and more heads and tails. Hoping their day bite continues to be just as good as their night bite for a stellar overall catch! We are looking forward to the 44 hour full moon trip Friday next week and hoping the Tuesday 39 hour really crushes it at the end of the month Tuesday!
