Hubbard’s Marina Cruise News 3-1-26

Capt. Dylan Hubbard here with another exciting update from the beautiful waters of central west Florida. As we cruise daily along the beaches of Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach, Shell Key, Fort De Soto, and Egmont Key, we are watching the ecosystem transition into one of the most active and rewarding times of the year. From dolphin watching nature cruises and sunset cruises to three hour Shell Key shelling trips, island ferry runs, and family fun pirate ship adventures, the wildlife and natural beauty around Tampa Bay are truly coming alive.

Our local dolphin population is also entering an exciting phase. Baby dolphins are becoming a frequent sight throughout the bay, often traveling closely alongside their mothers. We are currently expecting two more calves any day now, which always brings a renewed sense of anticipation to our dolphin watching tours. Observing young dolphins learn to surface properly, practice hunting, and interact playfully with neighboring pods is one of the most special experiences we get to share with our guests.

Seabird activity is steadily increasing as well. Nesting behavior is becoming more noticeable on the islands we pass each day, and roosting activity is ramping up. As we move further into this season, we expect to begin spotting more baby birds as they hatch and eventually start learning to fly around the nesting islands. The islands themselves are becoming increasingly vibrant with life, offering wonderful opportunities for birdwatching during our eco tours and ferry trips.

Pirate Ship Family Fun Cruises

Our pirate ship cruises inside John’s Pass added even more excitement this week with special visitors from the Tampa Bay Rays. Both mascots joined us aboard the Royal Conquest, leading to epic sword fights, water gun battles, and nonstop family fun while cruising the pass and spotting wildlife along the way.

Cruise News: Island Ferries

Shelling continues to be a major highlight for guests exploring our barrier islands. Egmont Key has been producing impressive shark tooth finds, including some notably large specimens that have thrilled beachcombers. Meanwhile, Shell Key has been delivering its own treasures, with abundant sand dollars and a variety of unique shells washing ashore. The combination of shifting tides and improving water clarity has made this an excellent stretch for anyone interested in shelling and shoreline exploration.

Sea turtle sightings are also on the rise. As waters continue to clear and warm, turtles are surfacing more frequently, making them easier to spot while cruising to and from Shell Key and Egmont Key. Guests aboard our dolphin tours and sunset cruises have been enjoying these unexpected encounters, which add another layer of excitement to each trip.

With thriving shelling conditions, baby dolphins on the way, active nesting seabirds, and increasing sea turtle sightings, this is one of the most dynamic and educational times to be on the water with us. Whether you are joining for a dolphin watching nature cruise, a relaxing sunset cruise with free beer and wine, a Shell Key shelling adventure, an Egmont Key ferry trip, or a pirate ship outing for the family, there is something remarkable waiting just beyond the dock.
