This week has been fantastic for dolphin watching, with huge groups of dolphins being spotted regularly. These playful dolphins have been highly active, jumping and swimming alongside our boats as we cruise through Boca Ceiga Bay, Madeira Beach, and Treasure Island. The dolphins have been enjoying the cooler waters and abundant feeding opportunities, especially as the rains and high tides have brought plenty of food into the area. Guests aboard our dolphin watching cruises and eco tours have been treated to some incredible displays of acrobatics and playful behavior from these intelligent creatures.
Cruise News: Island Ferries

Cow-Nosed Rays and Other Marine Life
We’ve also had some amazing sightings of cow-nosed rays, also known as a ‘fever’ of rays, during our dolphin watching cruises and trips to the islands. These large, graceful rays have been swimming in large groups, creating a spectacular sight for our guests. Whether we’re cruising through the bays or heading out to Shell Key or Egmont Key, there’s always a chance to spot these fascinating creatures as they glide effortlessly through the water.
In addition to the rays, we’ve also had multiple manatee sightings around Egmont Key and Shell Key, adding to the abundance of wildlife we’ve been able to share with our guests this week. These gentle giants are always a highlight, and many of our island visitors have been lucky enough to spot them while relaxing on the shores or snorkeling in the shallow waters.

Shelling and Beachcombing
Shelling has been outstanding lately, with guests finding some amazing treasures while exploring the shores of Shell Key and Egmont Key. Big whelks, conchs, and sand dollars have been among the top finds, and our guests have been thrilled with the bounty of shells they’ve collected during their trips. The best shelling has been found in waist-deep waters along the island’s edges, where guests have had the best luck finding these prized treasures. If you’re looking to take home a unique souvenir from your trip, our Shell Key Shelling Trips and Egmont Key Ferry Trips offer some of the best shelling opportunities along the Gulf Coast.

Water Clarity and Full Moon Effects
The full moon brought extreme high tides, which have improved water clarity in the back bay areas, making it easier to spot marine life. However, the tide changes also bring some challenges, as the water clarity can get a bit murky at the start of the outgoing tide until the incoming tide brings fresher, clearer water back in. Despite this, the high tides have allowed for incredible dolphin watching and wildlife sightings, making for some memorable cruises. The shift in tides creates a dynamic and ever-changing environment that keeps our tours exciting and full of surprises.
Seabird Sightings
We’ve had some great seabird sightings this week, with large groups of pelicans, egrets, and herons feeding and soaring overhead. These birds have been particularly active around Egmont Key and Shell Key, providing guests with great opportunities for birdwatching during our island trips. Whether you’re relaxing on the beach, cruising through the waters, or enjoying a sunset cruise, you’ll be treated to the sights and sounds of these magnificent birds.
