Hubbard’s Marina Cruise News 6-6-26

Dolphin activity continues to be outstanding throughout the Tampa Bay area. Many of the calves born earlier in the season are growing rapidly and becoming more independent. We are frequently observing young dolphins learning to hunt alongside their mothers and family groups, providing fascinating opportunities to witness natural dolphin behavior firsthand.

Guests aboard our Dolphin Watching Nature Cruises and Eco Tours are often treated to exciting displays of dolphins chasing baitfish, practicing hunting techniques, and developing the skills they will rely on throughout their lives. These educational encounters remain one of the highlights of every trip and offer a unique glimpse into the daily lives of our local bottlenose dolphins.

Summer evenings on the Gulf Coast continue to provide spectacular conditions for our Sunset Cruises. As the sun dips below the horizon, guests enjoy breathtaking views of the sky painted in vibrant shades of orange, pink, and gold while cruising the calm waters around Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, and St. Pete Beach.

Wildlife sightings remain common during our sunset excursions, with frequent encounters featuring dolphins, seabirds, rays, and occasionally even sea turtles. Combined with complimentary beer and wine, these relaxing cruises offer the perfect way to unwind while experiencing the natural beauty of Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Shell Key, Egmont Key & Island Adventures

Sea turtle nesting season is now underway on Shell Key and Egmont Key, with a growing number of nests appearing along the islands’ protected shorelines. These nesting areas serve as an important reminder of the critical role our barrier islands play in supporting Florida’s coastal ecosystem.

Guests visiting Shell Key and Egmont Key have also been enjoying an increase in sea turtle sightings. The warmer summer waters and calmer conditions have made it more common to spot turtles surfacing or cruising just beneath the water, creating memorable experiences for island visitors and shelling enthusiasts alike.

Shell Key camping remains available for adventurous visitors looking to experience an overnight stay on one of Florida’s most pristine barrier islands. While seasonal restrictions on campfires during sea turtle nesting season have reduced camping activity somewhat, guests who make the journey continue to enjoy quieter beaches, incredible stargazing, and a peaceful island atmosphere.

Wildlife Sightings & Nature Viewing

Wildlife viewing throughout Tampa Bay’s back bays and barrier islands remains exceptional. Sea turtles, manatees, dolphins, rays, and countless species of coastal birds continue to provide unforgettable encounters for guests exploring the region.

The seabird colonies around Shell Key, Fort De Soto, and neighboring islands are entering a new stage of the season. Many of the young birds hatched during the spring are now fully feathered and beginning to leave their nests. Pelicans, egrets, cormorants, terns, and other coastal species can frequently be observed practicing their flying and hunting skills as they prepare for independence.

As we move deeper into summer, wildlife activity is expected to continue increasing. With sea turtle nesting season underway, growing dolphin calves learning to hunt, juvenile seabirds taking flight, and manatees regularly cruising local waterways, there has never been a better time to experience the incredible natural beauty and biodiversity of Florida’s Gulf Coast.
