Greetings from Hubbard’s Marina! Capt. Dylan Hubbard here, bringing you the latest updates and wildlife encounters from our weekly adventures on the waters of Central West Florida. From dolphin watching nature cruises to our sunset cruises with free beer and wine, and trips to Shell Key and Egmont Key, we’ve had an incredible week of exploring, rescuing wildlife, and experiencing the beauty of the Gulf Coast. Let’s dive into the highlights and share what you can expect when you join us for your next adventure
Wildlife Rescues
At Hubbard’s Marina, we take our role in protecting wildlife seriously. This past week, we’ve had the opportunity to rescue and assist a variety of seabirds and marine life. On our Egmont Key Ferry, we successfully rescued a skimmer that had become entangled and needed help. We also helped a tern at Shell Key and a laughing gull at Hubbard’s Marina after a dolphin cruise and eco tour. Our crew worked with local rescuers to coordinate the rehabilitation of several pelicans we found in trouble during one of our 3-hour Shell Key Shelling Trips. It’s always heartwarming to see these creatures recover and return to the wild, and we’re grateful to be part of their journey.
These rescues are reminders of the importance of keeping our waters clean and safe for local wildlife. Whether you’re cruising with us or enjoying a day on the islands, be mindful of the environment to help protect the incredible creatures we encounter.
Sunset Cruises with Free Beer and Wine
Our sunset cruises continue to be a highlight of the week, offering guests stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico as the sun sets over the horizon. Whether you’re relaxing with a drink in hand, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, or spotting dolphins and seabirds, our sunset cruises with free beer and wine provide the perfect way to end the day. The Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, and St. Pete Beach views are particularly spectacular, especially as the sky is painted in beautiful colors as the sun dips below the water.

Cruise News: Island Ferries
Rays, Dolphins, and Sea Turtles
This week has been a great time for spotting rays, with several groups of rays moving along the coastal areas. We’ve seen cow-nosed rays and stingrays while cruising to Shell Key and Egmont Key, offering our guests some spectacular wildlife sightings. These graceful creatures are always a treat to witness as they glide through the waters.
In addition to the rays, our dolphin watching cruises and eco tours have been filled with playful dolphins, as bottlenose dolphins remain active in the inshore and inland waters. Guests on our sunset cruises and island hopping tours have had plenty of opportunities to see these intelligent creatures up close, often leaping and swimming right beside the boats.
The sea turtles have also been active lately, with more nests appearing along our local beaches. As we move through nesting season, we ask everyone to be cautious and mindful of these important habitats. Be sure to give any nesting areas plenty of room while cruising, and keep an eye out for sea turtles during your adventures.
Shelling Adventures and Island Exploration
Our Shell Key Shelling Trips and Egmont Key Ferry trips have been incredibly rewarding lately, with guests discovering a variety of amazing shells. From conchs and whelks to sand dollars, there’s no shortage of treasures to be found on these pristine beaches. Guests have had the best luck finding shells by wading into waist to chest-high waters along the edges of the islands, where the best shelling tends to happen.
Whether you’re on a shelling trip, snorkeling at Egmont Key, or exploring the beaches of Shell Key and Fort De Soto, there’s always something new and exciting to discover. The islands offer a tranquil setting for beachcombing, snorkeling, and taking in the natural beauty of Pinellas County.
