Hubbard’s Marina Cruise News 4-11-26

Capt. Dylan Hubbard here with another update from the waters of central west Florida, where spring has fully taken hold and the entire ecosystem around Tampa Bay is buzzing with activity. From Madeira Beach and Treasure Island to Shell Key, Fort De Soto, and Egmont Key, our daily dolphin watching nature cruises, island ferry trips, shelling adventures, pirate ship cruises, and sunset cruises have been packed with incredible wildlife sightings and beautiful conditions on the water.

Water clarity has been exceptional lately, and it has made a huge difference in the overall experience on the water. In many areas of the back bay and along the beaches, we are seeing crystal clear conditions that allow us to easily spot wildlife below the surface. This clarity has made it easier than ever to see dolphins, sea turtles, and manatees, and it adds a whole new level of enjoyment to our eco tours and sightseeing cruises.

Dolphin activity continues to be strong, with a noticeable shift in behavior as juveniles begin learning from older members of the pod. We are seeing dolphins working together in larger groups, teaching the younger ones how to hunt and interact. These moments are fascinating to watch, as guests get a firsthand look at the social and learning dynamics within dolphin pods during our dolphin watching nature cruises.

Cruise News: Island Ferries

One of the biggest highlights right now has been the return of manatees. We are seeing more and more of these gentle giants moving through the area, especially around Shell Key, Egmont Key, and along our local beaches. After spending the colder months in warmer spring-fed waters, they are now making their way back into the coastal bays and grass flats. Guests have been getting some great looks at them cruising slowly through the shallows, and we expect their numbers to continue increasing in the coming weeks.

Sea turtles are also becoming more active as conditions continue to warm. While sightings have already been increasing, we are just a few weeks away from the start of sea turtle nesting season, which means we can expect to see even more turtles in the area very soon. These early appearances are a great sign of what is to come as the season progresses.

Bird activity across the region is another major highlight. There is a noticeable energy in the air as seabirds take advantage of the spring conditions. Pelicans, egrets, cormorants, and other coastal birds are actively feeding and roosting, and many of the nesting islands we pass are full of life. One of our local osprey nests that we have been watching closely has reached an exciting stage, with the young now fully grown and preparing to learn how to hunt. Watching this transition from nesting to independence is always a special part of the season.

Between the returning manatees, active dolphins, increasing sea turtle sightings, thriving birdlife, and incredibly clear water, this is one of the most vibrant times of year to be on the water. Whether you are joining us for a dolphin watching nature cruise, a three hour Shell Key shelling trip, a ferry ride to Egmont Key, a sunset cruise with free beer and wine, or a family fun pirate ship adventure, there is something new and exciting to experience on every trip.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard and sharing another unforgettable week exploring the waters and wildlife of Florida’s Gulf Coast.
